BoozerDozer1ABoozer is a 4 year old blue male Great Dane. Along with being a very handsome boy, he also is truly a gentle giant. He gets along with everything, has lived with kids and is easy to handle. He comes when called, loves to be petted and is completely house trained.

If you want a Dane that would love nothing more than to just lie on the sofa and get a belly rub from his master, then this is the one for you. He is extremely well-behaved and will greet you w/ a single 'Good Morning' every day when he sees you via his amusing howl.

Jessie

Jessie1AJessie is an 8 month old blue female Great Dane puppy. She came to rescue as a 6 month old, very skittish and afraid as well as very thin. Its taken some time to get her weight up and healthy but even more to get her to trust people.

Jessie is a small, petite Dane weighing approx 70 pounds as an 8 month old. She's become a very happy young lady while here with us, gaining confidence every day. She gets along great with male and female dogs large and small. Her best buddy is the new boy Boozer, the two of them share a kennel. Both of them usually spend playtime with Gracie and Diego, two other Great Danes, a male and female.

Jessie is good with kids as well. Contact us via e-mail, we'll attach an application to the return post!!! Triple J accepts donation through Pay Pal on this website to donate and our e-mail address.

Clyde

Clyde1AClyde is a four year old male Great Dane. He has the unusual coloration of blue splashes on white. At first sight you'll think harlequin (black on white).

He came to rescue after a good samaritan took him in only to have her personal dog refuse to accept Clyde. She contacted a friend in rescue who in turn contacted me. Clyde is a very calm, laid back Dane that gets along with all other dogs, cats are unknown. He lived with young kids in the good smaritans home. He was with those kids when I went to pick him up, he acted as if he had always been around kids. He is perfectly house trained, I'm told.

Clyde's been updated on all shots and neutered since coming here. If interested, please send us an e-mail and we will send an application attached to a return e-mail. We also accept donations through PayPal (on our site) if you'd care to help us help the Danes.

Clyde went to his forever home in October 2012.

Happy1AHappy is a 1.5 yo black female who came to rescue when her owner could no longer care for her. Confused and skittish at first, she has settled into the kennel and truly lives up to her name, she's a "Happy" girl. Happy gets along well with all other dogs at the kennel, loves attention and being petted. Happy will do well in any home but would prefer another dog and some kids to share play time. Contact our rescue if you'd like to apply to adopt.

Oakley

Amy1AOakley is a 2 yo black female Great Dane. She came to us when another rescue needed help with their over abundance of homeless Danes. She is great with all people but can be a bit picky about her canine friends, preferring males.

Oakley is not an alpha in the true sense of the word but won't be pushed around either. Introduced properly, she gets along with most other dogs, male or female.

Oakley loves toys, she loves to play, a chance to compete in tug of war really gets her fired up. If you look closely at her picture you'll see some drool on her snout. She got this from shaking her head in a game of tug just before the picture session!!!

She's an awesome girl who will make some home an absolute wonderful pet. If you're interested in more info or applying to adopt, go to our website and send an e-mail or call.

Oakley went to her forever home in November 2012.

Charlie

Charlie2-1ACharlie was one of the first Danes adopted after Triple J became a certified non-profit rescue. You can see his picture on the home page of our website. He has lived the last 2 years with a family in western NC. Its been a great two years for Charlie, he's been well cared for and loved. Unfortunately, he had to come back to rescue after his family moved to another country and could not take him. Charlie is good with all people and other dogs. He has lived with young kids and is fine with cats. He is a bit skittish at first in new surroundings but is the perfect Great Dane once he realizes its okay. Charlie is a big boy as his picture implies, he's a leaner and loves being petted. He loves to go for rides, is good on leash and enjoys being on outings with his family. Beauregard (Beau)

Beauregard3ABeauregard (Beau) as you can see is a broad chested, stocky blue Dane who looks like a professional football player. This handsome boy loves attention and like all Danes craves being close to his humans.

He comes to rescue after being given up by his family. A new baby in the house caught Beau completely off guard. He had trouble accepting not being the center of attention. It's not that Beau is not good with kids, he just wasn't properly prepared.

Beau is actually doing very well during this transition in his life. Of course, he is bewildered by all that is happening but seems to be handling it very well. He gets along fine with other dogs, absolutely, no aggression. He's mature, but at the same time hasn't forgotten being a puppy.

Beau went to his forever home in June, 2012.

Ava

Ava2A-1Ava is a 3 yo mostly white female Great Dane with a few black spots (Harlequin). She came to rescue from a shelter where she had gone after being picked up as a stray. Terribly thin and malnourished there was no way to know any history, the shelter contacted rescue.

Most all white Great Danes with two blue eyes will have hearing and or vision problems or both. Ava does seem to mave some vision problems but does not appear to have any problems hearing, which in itself, is a minor miracle.

Ava is a big strong girl and as a typical Dane, truly loves people and their attention. Because of her vision problems, she'll be limited to homes without small kids. There is no history of problems with kids, we're just playing it safe. Judging from her demeanor around people, its very possible she'd be perfectly fine around kids.

Ava is not good with other dogs, especially female dogs. She will attack another female dog, make no mistake about it. Male dogs are another story, however we are taking no chances, she'll be limited to homes as the only dog.

Ava is a wonderful dog who deserves a good life. She should not have to live her life in a rescue kennel because she has a strong opinion about her fellow canines. If you are a dog lover, looking for a companion to be your best, closest buddy and who can and will provide a secure environment away from other dogs, you should check Ava out.

THERE IS NO FEE FOR AN APPROVED HOME THAT FITS AVA'S NEEDS.!!! :):)

Lilly

Lilly3A-1Lilly is a 2 yo blue female Dane who came to rescue after a good samaritan family took her in. She was quite thin and found to have a urinary tract infection. It is believed the UTI may have been the cause of what was believed to be separation anxiety, early on.

After treatment, Lilly settled into a new foster home where she is around other dogs, male and female and kids all the time. No further evidence of anxiety.

Unfortunately, Lilly Blue, being the active girl she is was discovered to have partial tears in both knees. She has had surgery on one knee and is recuperating. Once its well enough, she will have surgery on the other knee.

Sam

Sam1A-2Sam is a six year old male Great Dane who appears to be much younger. He came to rescue after being given away by his owners. Good samaritans found him on a chain and were able to talk the new owner into giving him up.

Sam is a very handsome boy who is a bit suspicious of people at first. His head shyness may be due to some abuse but all in all, he is in excellent condition. All he needs is a loving home and a gentle hand to regain his trust. His temperament and behavior suggests he'd be a very loyal friend and companion.

Andie lived with a male Great Dane in her former home and a JRT. She and the male Dane were fine, he was submissive to her, but she and the dominant JRT did not get get along. That is the reason she ultimately was given up by her owners.

Since coming to rescue she is proving to be excellent with people. Her visit to a new vet went extremely, absolutely no problem with the shots, the pokes and probes!! She is in excellent health and ready to be adopted.

Baylee

Baylee2ABaylee is a 2 year old female black Dane. She came to rescue along with Jill when their mom's illness made taking care of them very difficult. Baylee's adjustment to the big change in her life has been difficult for her. She's been here just over a month now and beginning to enjoy life again. She lived with kids in her previous home. She would join them on the trampoline, I am told. Baylee's former owner said she had been around a great many kids including a special needs child and was always perfect. She went on to say that Baylee was the queen of the house or at least believed herself to be. That may explain why she's had a bit of trouble adjusting to life in rescue.

Baylee is very good on leash, responds well when called, loves attention. Baylee loves a good romp around the yard, A playmate, preferably a male, would be good although she'd do well as an only dog.

Baylee went to her forever home in February 2012.

Charlie

Charlie1ACharlie is a one and a half year old male fawn who came to rescue as a one year old. His previous owners gave him up after he began to take over the pack (family). He began to resource guard his mom and growl at the kids. Allowed to do as he pleased, Charlie decided he'd prefer to be the pack leader. BTW, this is a common reaction from pack animals left to their own devices.

Coming to rescue and learning he is not in charge was not easy for Charlie at first. However, over the past many weeks, he has evolved into a really nice young Dane. He has learned that being in charge is not such a big deal. As a matter of fact, he prefers to leave that to the humans and just be happy and have fun. A very handsome boy, he now has the attitude to match those good looks.

Charlie came to rescue in Jan. 2012.

Charlie got adopted in June, 2012.

Isabella

Isabella1AIsabella, aka "Bella", is an 11 month old female Great Dane. She came to rescue when her owner had to move and could not take her. She is a very sweet girl although quite shy. She is a fawn beauty with a unique merle patch on her muzzle.

Bella is house trained, has been spayed and is up to date on all vaccines. She has always been on heart worm preventative and flea control.

Her shyness requires a lot of patience to get to know her. The best home for her is one with minimal activity and minimal people. Bella came to rescue with her buddy Zane. She was very attached to him, it was a real concern when he got adopted almost immediately, that she would be devastated. That has not proven to be the case at all. Her best buddy now is a big male Dane named Diego, that she adores. She was obviously denied socialization with other dogs as a baby as well as with humans. Diego is teaching her that being a dog can be fun, he loves all dogs and is teaching her to be the same. Diego has issues with humans as well but is devoted to those he knows as friends. That is helping her work through her fear of people.

She is absolutely non-aggressive and good with other dogs, its people who are a problem. If you live alone and would love to have a dedicated friend, get to know Isabella.

Isabella went to her forever home in February, 2012.

Thor

Thor1AThor is a coming six year old Great Dane. He's even more handsome than his pictures suggest. He is the perfect Dane with other dogs and all people. Most of his life he lived with a family with a lot of kids. Financial concerns caused his release to rescue, originally.

His only negative is his separation anxiety when his beloved master is away from him. He currently lives with a single lady who works, so no one is home when she is at work. This became more of an issue after Thor survived health complications brought about by infections following neuter surgery.

Thor would be the perfect friend, companion, buddy in a home where someone is always at home. He is well past all the puppy issues and just wants to be close to his family.

Don't miss the opportunity to adopt the perfect Great Dane, send an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to receive an adoption application.  Thor is currently residing in a foster home.

She is very good with all people, has lived with a small child and gets along well with the other dogs here at the rescue kennel.

Laredo

Laredo2ALaredo is approx 1.5 years old, maybe younger. He came to rescue as a stray picked up by a good samaritan. At first, Laredo was very afraid of everything. Apparently not well socialized, he shied away from people, other dogs, almost everything. He wanted so badly to be accepted but just didn't know what to do. Laredo has come a long way in the few weeks he's been here. He is no longer shy and withdrawing, instead, he's outgoing, playful, happy.

Laredo gets along with all other dogs, male and female, loves to be petted and welcomes attention. There have been no negative issues at all since he came to us. Cats are an unknown at this point.

A foster home would be a real plus for Laredo to help continue his socialization and training. If you'd like to foster, contact our rescue.

Laredo went to his forever home in January, 2012.

Sunny & Cher

NonDanePup1ANo, they aren't Danes, I'm not quite sure just what they are. The rescue got a call from someone about two puppies in their yard who appeared to be Great Danes. From their description, it sounded like they very well could be Danes. One is a fawn with a black mask, the other dark with white stockings, white socks, white muzzle and chest, sounds like a mantle marked Dane to me.

No way we could leave them them as strays to fend for themselves so here they are!!!! Both are awesome pups, very friendly, very happy. They love to play with each other and the other dogs.

Our vet believes they are 6 months to one year old and will be medium sized adults. The fawn, Sunny, is a little bigger than Cher, the brindle and white girl. Cher's face and head has the look of an American Bulldog, while Sunny looks more Labrador. They are beautiful girls who will make great pets and companions for some lucky home. Contact our rescue if you'd like more info.

Sunny and Cher came to rescue in Sept. 2011.

Sunny & Cher went to their forever home in Oct. 2011.

Winston lived with kids in his former home and never was a problem with them. He is good with all people and can be taken anywhere, a mature laid back boy who would be a wonderful addition to any home. Winston is good with other dogs, preferring females or submissive males. He is tolerant of cats.  Winston is currently living in a foster home until adopted.

Joey1AJoey is a young Great Dane pup. He came to rescue by way of a good samaritan whose yard he strayed into. After checking for the owners for a few weeks she contacted our rescue. Joey is very thin and may very well have been a stray for some time. He eats like he's never gonna get another meal as you'd expect. He's a very good looking pup who is rather tall and lanky for his guesstimated age.

Even though his life has obviously not been a bed of roses, he is a very happy lively boy. He jumps for joy when given attention and just can't believe his good fortune when someone pays attention.

Joey needs to be taught some manners and because he wants to please so badly, will be a quick learner.

He is a beautiful tall boy who gets along with everything, male dogs, female dogs, large and small. He is fine with cats as well. After he left the shelter, he was temporarily fostered at a home with small kids and no issues, whatsoever.

Bo picked up some kind of bug at the shelter that turned into an upper respiratory infection. The great staff at Rosewood Animal Hospital in Columbia, SC took great care of him until he was ready to be posted for adoption. He is eating well, gaining weight and looking great now. His tall lanky frame is filling out very well, no way to know just how big he's going to be, suffice it to say he's gonna be a big boy!!!

He truly enjoys life and loves playtime with the other dogs at the rescue kennel. He handles very well on a leash considering no formal training and his young age. This boy won't last long, contact the rescue for an application form asap.

Lady

Lady1ALady is a five year old female Great Dane who came to rescue along with her litter of pups. You can see the pups who are also available for adoption on this website as well as on PetFinder. Lady is an exceptionally sweet girl who gets along with all other dogs. She is very easy to handle, walks very well on leash, loves attention as all Danes do, and will lean with the best of them for pets and love. She spent a good part of her life on a chain till her good samaritan neighbors talked her owner into giving her up. They took her to the vet, got all shots up to date, and over the next year nursed her back to good health. Unfortunately, they did not have her spayed and the inevitable happened.

An older couple, Lady's rescuers, could not care for her and a litter of pups so they turned to rescue. They wanted to be very sure she would have a new home and be cared for the rest of her life.

Lady looks much younger than five years old, there is no sign of gray around the muzzle or eyes. She is a very laid back calm girl who will make some family an awesome friend and companion. She warms up quickly to a gentle hand and kind word regardless of the bad years. She likes to watch TV (see picture)and would love to spend a quiet afternoon, evening, watching TV with you.  Lady came to rescue in June 2011.

Lola

Lola1ALola is a two year old female black Great Dane who is looking for a new home. She has lived with kids, is fine with cats and other dogs.

Lola is a girl who needs direction, rules, leadership. She is not a dominant, alpha type with a lot of self confidence. She was allowed too much responsibility in her previous home and had no idea how to manage it. So she became overly protective of her skin brothers and sisters as well as her mom.

Lola actually prefers that someone else play the role of leader and let her settle into a slot with very little or no responsibilty. She'd rather play with the kids than guard them, she'd prefer to be directed, disciplined, petted and loved on than be in charge. She is smallish with the slickest shiniest black coat you ever saw. She'd love to snuggle with you or the kids on the couch, even the cat can join in. Treat her like the kids and she'll be the perfect new member of your family.

An exceptionally handsome boy, he is also easy to handle and loves all people. He has now been neutered and is ready to go, all shots are current and he is heart worm negative.

Sampson

Sampson2ASampson is a young Great Dane who has not had a very good life so far. Take a look at the color of his coat for example, where a slick shiny coat should be is a sunbleached ugly brown coat. His ears have sores from biting flies from being kept outside by previous owners.

Still he is very sweet and loving to everyone he comes in contact with. Sam has been a joy to work with since coming to rescue. His rescue angel cleaned him up, medicated his sore ears before bringing him to the rescue kennel.

He has been vetted now, is up to date on all shots and has gone to live in a foster home until adopted. Periodic updates will be posted to show his progress. The brown coat will shed out, the ears will heal, he will be awesome!!!

Clearly, Sam is and will be an awesome addition to any home. So far he has shown to be good with kids, cats, horses, other dogs, large and small. If you ever wanted a Great Dane, you should take a long look at Sam.

Layla

Layla2AUPDATE: See original evaluation below this update....

After a few weeks in rescue, Layla has proven to be fine with male and female dogs as long as they respect her space. She is not aggressive but will not back down if challenged or attacked. Her response appears to be based on resource guarding of food and or being a bit skittish and fearful of the unknown. She needs a bit more time than most when going to a new home. Her skittish nature requires extra time for her to adjust. Given that time and being fed separately is the secret to success with Layla. She has lived with a cat and tolerated it very well. Because of her tendency to be skittish and slow to adjust we still believe it best to place her in a home with older kids. (see original eval below).

Original Evaluation:

Layla is a three year old female Dane. Absolutely gorgeous in her black speckled white coat, she has an air of sophistication about her. The cropped but not well standing ears just adds to the mystery known as Layla.

Layla came to rescue after her owner suffered a serious back injury. She was taken in by a wonderful couple only to find Layla and their current female Dane didn't get along very well. Devastated, they decided to allow rescue to find a new home for Layla. Layla's evaluation is ongoing, so far it appears she prefers male dogs to females and very good with all people. At this point, we would limit her placement to families with submissive male dogs and kids over 10 years old. As we learn more, that can and will change, feel free to contact the rescue for updates.

Layla went to her forever home in August, 2011.

Tazer

Tazer1ATazer is a four month old puppy that we believe is Great Dane/German Short Haired Pointer mix. Our vet says, no doubt about the Dane part and because of the short tail and pointer spots in the blaze on his chest, agrees that GSHP is most likely the mix.

Tazer is a bundle of joy, energy and personality all rolled into one. He came from the local animal shelter where he was taken by the good samaritan who took him in as a stray. While here at the rescue kennel, he is proving to be a favorite of all the other dogs and gets along with all of them. He loves to play and is much more agile than full blooded dane pups of the same age. One of his favorite things to do after a wild and wooly playtime is to snuggle in your lap or even better on the couch. He already knows sit and is working on howdy.

He has had all his puppy shots and will be neutered as soon as he's old enough, probably at 5 to 6 months old. Currently, he is working on getting house trained and it's going well as he already knows he should go outside. There are the occasional mishaps which usually come when we forget to let him out.

Tazer needs a home with a fence and preferably another dog to play with. He loves kids and wants one or two of his own!!!

Tazer went to his forever home on March 3, 2012.

Doby

Dobby2ADoby is a 4 year old merle male Dane who comes to rescue along with his two buddies from a year long stint at a Florida boarding facility. They went there when their owners lost home and business to foreclosure. Doby is the lover of the three, he is one of the sweetest boys you'll ever want to meet. He thinks a hand that isn't petting a Dane, is a terrible waste!!!

Doby's only shortcoming and its not much is he's a bit cow hocked. He has no idea what that means and really could care less!!! He loves to play, has a perfect personality and temperament and will make any home a better place to live.

Doby will be ready to go as soon as he is neutered.

He, like his buddies, has a perfect disposition and temperament. Barbaro is the most reserved of the trio but still loves to be petted like all Danes. His slick coat and beginning gray around the eyes make him a very handsome boy. He is in excellent condition and loves to play. He and his other Florida buddy love to share playtime with each other and really enjoy the freedom of being outside.

Bella

Bella2BBella came to rescue as an 8 week old puppy from a shelter in western NC. She was said to be Mastiff/Great Dane mix. We believe she is a Catahoula Leopard Dog mixed with Great Dane.

Bella lived with a family for almost a year while the alpha female in the home continued to pick on her. She was perfect with people including the toddler in the family. She was returned to rescue when she and the older alpha dog could no longer get along. The breed may be questionable but what we do know is Bella is one sweet loving little girl who could care less what breed she may or may not be.

She loves life to its fullest. Her motto is "I'm Bella, if you want to have some fun, follow me"!!!! Bella is good with male dogs and submissive females, not good with cats.

She DESERVES a chance to live her life in a home. Please contact the rescue if interested in Bella by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

T-Rex (Teddy)

T-Rex1A

Teddy (T-Rex) is a 3 year old black male Dane who comes to rescue when his owners could no longer keep him. He gets along well with other dogs, large and small, okay with cats and has lived with kids. It seems Teddy gets anxious when left alone too long so a home where someone is home most of the time will be best.

Teddy is pure bred (has papers) where his registered name is T-Rex for the pre-historic monster. His foster home says he is nothing like his name sake and changed his name to Teddy, as in teddy bear!!! He is a very sweet boy who loves to play, prefers a couch to the floor and craves attention from his humans.

Rufus

Rufus1A

Rufus is a three year old blue merle. He is a tall good looking boy who gets along with other dogs male or female here at the rescue kennel. His previous owners gave him up when he began to resource guard his mom from his very young skin sister. With another baby on the way, the owners felt it best to find a new home for Rufus. Rufus will probably be better matched in a family with older kids. It's obvious he's been well cared for, the first few days were very unsettling here at the kennel. He's beginning to settle in now, explore his new surroundings and meet the other dogs.

A foster home would be fantastic for Rufus, if you think you'd like to be a foster for this boy, contact us via the e-mail address listed on the site. If fostering is not possible and you'd like to help, consider being a virtual foster. For details go to the wish list on our website.

Rufus is up to date on vet care and ready to go, he came to rescue in April 2011.

Piper (Courtesy Listing)

Piper1A

Piper is a Courtesy Listing:

Piper is a 14 week old female Great Dane puppy, who currently weighs about 15-18 pounds. We were told her mother was 180 # and her father was 210#, so she is going to be a big girl! She is a typical mischievous puppy who will get into just about everything. She is full-blooded but we did not get the papers. She has had the first 2 sets of puppy shots, and has been dewormed. She will receive the last booster and another deworming before going to her new home.

Piper tends to be food protective and guards her food bowl. I (current mom) have been giving her small portions and/or hand feeding her to try to remedy this problem. We are also working on basic obedience training. We are working on socializing Piper with people and small kids. Our 4 year old is afraid of her because she does come on a bit rough, that's why we are seeking to rehome her.

Piper gets along well with other dogs, and submits to our 7 pound Yorkie. When she plays too rough with him, he growls and she backs off. She does ok with cats but loves to chase and torment them endlessly. Piper will chew and eat anything that will fit into her mouth, like a typical puppy so chew toys are a must!

If you are interested in adopting Piper please contact Triple J Great Dane Rescue for more info.

Abby

Abby1A

Abby is a 3 year old catahoula mix female who came to rescue from a shelter. The shelter thought she might be a Great Dane mix and contacted our rescue. As it turns out, she is not Great Dane but we could not leave her at the shelter. We brought her home and three weeks later much to our surprise, she gave birth to a litter of pups. All the pups except Ducky have been placed. We thought Abby had a home but it didn't happen.

She got her name from the hit TV show, NCIS. All the pups were named for a character on the show. Because of all her many colors, we felt the best name for her was Abby.

Abby may be the perfect dog as she is very loving, a fantastic mother, comes when called, makes every effort to please, easy to handle etc.etc.

She has been spayed, brought current on all shots and micro-chipped since coming to rescue. If you're looking for a fantastic family pet an awesome companion plus beautiful, you'll want Abby

Ducky

Ducky2A

Ducky is a 10 week old mix (non-dane) who came to rescue when his pregnant mother was pulled from a shelter. The shelter believed the mother to be part Dane but she appears to be more mix than Dane, probably catahoula mix. Ducky certainly looks dane, same short coat, same big feet and oversized legs and actually is of a size comparable to Great Dane puppies of the same age.

He's a very aweet boy, same sweet gentle nature as his mother. He will make someone an awesome pet.

There is an adoption fee (negotiable)as well as an adoption contract. We want to be sure its a good home and he gets to be an inside dog.

If you're interested in adopting Ducky, send an e-mail to the address listed on the website.

Colt

Colt2A

Colt is a 10 month old male mostly white Great Dane. As you'd expect, with mostly white and two blue eyes, he is deaf.

A big boy, he weighed in at 123 pounds when he came to rescue. He was turned over to rescue by his family who had kept him outside, we are told.

Colt needs a lot of work on manners, leash, conduct in general. He is very needy for attention and will need someone who has time and patience to work with a deafie. A knowledge of sign lanquage for dogs would be a real plus. His personality is really good for a deafie. Often times deafies can be a bit neurotic but he shows none of that, he has no idea he's different than other dogs.

Colt really needs a home where he can learn to deal with the world. A fenced yard is an absolute must for Colt. He can't hear approaching traffic so a leash is also a necessity any time he's outside a fenced area.

Colt actually likes being outside, a carryover from his previous owners I'm sure. I'm sure once he experiences being inside with his humans, that will without a doubt be his favorite, he loves attention.

If you'd like to adopt or foster Colt, please contact the rescue via the e-mail address listed on the website. It will be work but the reward of having a devoted deafie is well work the effort.  Colt came to rescue in April 2011.

You should see him after a session in the play yard following one of the many rains we've had lately!!!

Barbosa loves to ride and will hop right in when you open the door. A happy boy, he is constantly grinning and looking for something to get into.

He's really good on leash considering his young age. He lived with kids in his previous home and tested well with cats.

Lucky

Lucky1A

Lucky is a 20 month old male Dane/Husky mix. He has the husky coat with the Dane markings. He is an energetic boy who loves to play. He came to rescue after being picked up as a stray by animal control in his county.

Lucky has lived in a foster home with a small child and another dog, he was great!!. He spent some time in a foster home with a small baby and was very good in that situation as well. The negative was the cat, the chickens, the horses and the goats at that home. Too much temptation for Lucky, he thought his job was to keep them on their toes!! He couldn't understand why people were upset at him for doing his job.

While Lucky is full of energy outside, the Dane in him kicks in when he comes inside. He is a couch potato/lap dog wannabe just like every other dane. A fenced yard is a must for Lucky, leash walking won't be enough exercise for this boy. Please contact us if you are interested.

Lucky went to his forever home in March 2012.

Theo

Theo2A

Theo is a 10 month old fawn male who comes to rescue as an owner turn in. The economy has taken its toll one more time, it seems. Theo does not have the black mask that most folks look for in the fawn Danes but he is pure bred with papers. He lived with kids, gets along great with other dogs, male, female, large and small. He passed the cat scan test with Hector the clinic cat at our vets office. Theo is very thin, we think whip worms is the culprit. He's being dewormed as this is written and has begun to eat much better than a few days ago when he came to us. He's scheduled for neuter next week and will be ready to go.

Laurie

Laurie3A

Laurie is a 5 month old female Dane who comes to rescue from a shelter where she was an owner turn in. She is very tall and leggy as you can see from her picturea. She is also very thin and needs a home AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Laurie has a problem eating, we're not sure if its temporary or not. If she eats too much too fast she throws it up. At this point we and the vet are not sure why but she belches a lot when eating. Oddly enough she is not a gulper as you'd expect, she actually eats slowly. She does a lot better if fed small amounts and fed several times a day. She is not as food motivated as you'd think either being so thin.

She currently has a heavy load of whip worms that may be the entire problem. She's two thirds of the way through deworming and will need to be dewormed again in two weeks. If all goes well, we expect/hope the eating problems will go away as she begins to gain weight. She weighed 60 pounds at the vet this week. We expect her to be a thin Dane even when an adult because of her thin frame but she must be at least 20 pounds underweight now.

A foster home who has the time to take care of this girl through this ordeal would be perfect. She's going to need to be fed several times a day and may require some hand feeding. If you'd like to take on this task, please notify by e-mail to the address on the website.

Mozart

Mozart2A

Mozart is a 3 year old black male who comes to rescue as an owner turn in. The owner was no longer able to keep and care for Mozart. The owner contacted a TJGDR volunteer who in turn volunteered to go pick him up. So far he has shown to be very gentle with people and typical Dane leans like crazy. He has been to the vet and did extremely well with the exam, the shots and all the prodding and poking. He met the clinic cat nose to nose and only reacted when the cat jumped off the counter and disappeared. He did very well with our personal small dogs on the ride back to the kennel after meeting the volunteer. He allows his feet to be picked up, comes quickly when called and so far, appears to be a really nice Dane. Mozart seems very calm, meets everyone without fear or apprehension. He will be neutered in the next two weeks and will be ready for adoption.

Nellie came in to rescue quite scared and apprehensive but has begin to blossom into the beautiful, confident Great Dane she was meant to be. She's gaining weight, her coat is getting slick and shiny as well. She loves attention and comes running for it whenever she sees us coming. She can't get enough attention and is pure sweet black sugar!!! She has been fine with both male and female dogs here at the kennel as well as small dogs. She did perfectly with all our personal dogs, large and small. Nellie hasn't been tested with cats yet, that will have to wait for an update later.

Dunkin is a gorgeous fawn male. Dunkin actually came to TJGDR about 3 weeks ago. He was here for a week when his previous owners asked if they could have him back. It was a good home so I agreed. The family had made some adjustments that they hoped would allow him to stay.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out due to problems between dogs, therefore he came back after a week. A family in Asheville, NC that I have known for several years contacted me on Tues, came to meet him on Fri and took him home.

Dunkin has a new name "Kramer" and he's the only dog in a very Dane savvy home. His new mom and Dad, Tom and Jan Payne have owned Danes for years. They lost their last boy over a year ago and were finally ready for another. Live long and happy Kramer!!!

Oliver1A

Oliver is a 15 month old blue male. His family gave him up because he had begun to show dominance over their 13 year old Springer Spaniel and their youngest kids. They have five kids and are expecting their sixth. In my opinion Oliver was just a teen age Dane seeking his place in the pack. He began by trying to push out the older dog and the younger kids, in the animal world that would translate into the weakest. Sounds bad but its how the animal kingdom works.

She knows sit and will flop her butt instantly for a treat. She loves attention and seems to be a bit starved for it. She is now in a foster home with small kids and a small male dog. She has to be spayed before being available to adopt. That will be done in the next couple of weeks. Peggy came to rescue in Dec 2010.

Rider

Rider1A

Rider says: I am Rider, I will follow you where ever you go. I am a 96 pound Labrador / Great Dane mix. I live with another dog right now and I love to play all the time. I was rescued from prison (the pound) when I was just a tiny bag of bones, but I have grown up to be a great companion. Two of my favorite things are to have my belly scratched and to drink out of the hose. I am house broken, I know lots of commands, and I am very eager to please. If you would like to be my new belly scratcher, please contact Triple J Great Dane Rescue

His owner says: Rider loves to play with other dogs. He will spend a couple of minutes trying to be dominate when they first meet but it never lasts very long. He does need another big dog that he can play with and preferably a big yard to run in. He has never been around cats so I do not know how he'd be with them.He has spent time with several nieces and nephews and does fine with them. He does mouth at them sometimes when they play.

He goes on two long walks everyday and occasionally goes on runs with me, up to 3 miles. He might be able to go further, but I can't. He loves to swim, but especially if someone (dog or human) is in the water with him. He loves to be with people, he will follow you around the house and is at my side almost before I have the alarm turned off in the morning. He also loves to stick his head in the shower and drink the falling water. He does very well with baths, both indoors and out, and is well behaved when being brushed. He also is crate trained and he knows my schedule well enough that he is generally in the crate, or his room, before I have to ask him to go. He is always eager to please and once a command is learned, he doesn't forget it. He truly is a very happy dog.

Roscoe

Roscoe1A

...............Roscoe, A Christmas Story...............

Roscoe came to rescue on November 29th, he had been on the website only a couple of days when we were contacted by a gentleman named Fred. It turns out Fred's daughter, Roscoe's owner, had recently moved to Australia. Before she left, she had advertised for a new home for Roscoe and had placed him in a home. Unfortunately, this occurred before Fred and the daughter's mother were able to tell the daughter they wanted to keep Roscoe. Roscoe had lived with them for at least two years prior to their daughter moving from their home. They had no idea Roscoe wasn't still in his new home until they saw him on the rescue website. The how and why Roscoe came to rescue is still a bit unclear. We were contacted by someone telling us they found a Dane walking down a street/road. He was very thin and certainly looked homeless, we agreed to take him. The part that is unclear is how his name was and is Roscoe. After talking to Fred we took measures to be sure they were in fact Roscoe's lost grandparents.

Roscoe went home on Sunday, Dec. 19th, Fred and his wife, Deb and Caza, their female chocolate lab were all so glad to see Roscoe again. The last I heard from them, Roscoe was back to his old self on his old couch, enjoying being "Home for Christmas"!!!

But thats no life for a dog, even one with the energy of this young Dane. He's getting better every day in rescue but does need more work, according to a volunteer trainer at the rescue kennel. He'll need a firm hand and someone knowledgable in being the master and leader of the pack. Bert is a big boy, tall and strong who gets along with other dogs male and female. He has no history with kids and should be limited to homes with older kids or teenagers, at least.

Diamond is a 3 year old black female who comes to rescue along with her sister Tasha. Their owner had to move and could no longer keep them. Diamond is the more independent of the two and really takes care of her sister Tasha.

Our goal is to place them together if possible, they have been together since they were weaned as puppies. Both are completely house trained and trustworthy, they love to snuggle on the couch with their humans. They have lived a very sheltered life which makes the transition even more difficult. The good news is they are in a foster home with people who really know how to make orphan dogs be all they can be.

Diamond is prematurely graying around the eyes and muzzle, adding to her elegance and beauty. She is a perfect match for almost any family, no issues whatsoever.

Indi

Indi1A

Indi is a three year old harlequin female who came to rescue along with her sister Ava. They were taken from their owners by the local animal control for neglect and abuse. Indi, the slightly more dominant, is good with everything and everybody, including kids and cats. She loves to play and is very energetic. She, like her sister, loves to be around people and would be in heaven to share a couch with her new family.

Although being placed together is preferred, they are prepared to be separated. A home with an existing dog for her to play with is preferred.

Ava

Ava1A

Ava is a three year old female Great Dane with mantle markings. She came to rescue along with her sister Indi when they were taken from their owners by local animal control. Ava is good with all people whether they are male or female, adults or kids. She also tested well with cats.

A small female at approx. 100 pounds, she is a bundle of energy and loves to play. Ava also is a snuggler and loves to be petted as her favorite past time would be to share a couch with her family.

The preferred placement would be that both these girls go together, however, they are prepared to be separated if necessary. If separated from her sister, having another dog in the house would be best.

Jericho

Jericho1A

Jericho is a 16 month old male Great Dane having mantle coloration. He is good with both male and female dogs, large and small. He came to rescue when his military family transferred and could not take him.

He was described as stubborn when he first came to rescue but that appears to have been a lack of socialization. He was afraid of a lot of different things which became apparent in his refusal to walk on a leash. Once that was determined, it was simply a matter of taking a buddy along wherever we went. After Jericho saw his canine buddy enjoying new places and things, he joined right in the fun. He still has his moments but they are fewer and farther apart.

Jericho is up to date on all shots, is heart worm negative, and has been neutered. He is available for adoption now. He needs a foster home while waiting for his forever home.

Jack1A

Jack is a one year old black male Great Dane. He comes to rescue from a shelter where he was given up by his owner. He is a very playful boy and being a typical puppy loves to explore. So far he has proven to be good with kids, cats, and all other dogs, male and female. He's not a very big boy, weighing in at 73 pounds when he came to rescue. Jack is surprisingly good on a leash for such a young Dane, walking right alongside you without pulling. He has been brought current on all shots, is heart worm negative, and only needs to be neutered. Once neutered, he will be ready for adoption.

Lilly

Lilly1a

Lily is a two year old blue merle female who came to rescue from a shelter where she had been given up by her owners. She supposedly showed aggression to their other animals but we have seen no aggression to this point. She gets along fine with both male and female dogs at the rescue kennel, large and small. Lily was very good with kids of all sizes at a meet and greet at a local pet store near the rescue kennel. She gave kisses to several who came by to meet her. A beautiful girl in her blue merle coat, she is very elegant in whatever pose she may choose. If you look closely, you can see she is missing part of her tail. No idea how this may have happened, possibly a result of happy tail. Lily is easy to handle on a leash and really wants to please her handler. She will be an awesome addition to any family who may be fortunate enough to adopt this sweet girl.

Jill

Jill5a

Update: Dec 7 2010 Jill is in a foster home and doing very well. According to her foster mom, she's making herself right at home and loves to pose for pictures. If you're looking for a perfect Dane, check out Jill.

Jill is approximately 2 years old, fawn in color, with natural ears. She is a very happy girl who loves to run and play. She came to rescue after being picked up as a stray by local animal control in her county. Currently, she is being kept separate at the rescue kennel until she is completely up to date on vet care, tests and shots. She'll be spayed after that and then ready to go to her new home. She has a very friendly temperament, loves to be petted and quite full of herself. She can hardly wait to be allowed to play with the other Danes at the kennel. Jill came to rescue in Sept. 2010.

Jill went to her forever home in April 2011 after her foster family decided to adopt her.

Consuela

Consuela2A

Consuela is a 3 year old merle female with natural ears. She is great with male dogs but not females. She loves all people including kids but not good with cats. She came to rescue after being picked up as a stray by animal control. She loves being near her family and soaks up the attention. A loyal girl, she is protective of her family, and will let you know if strangers are about. A beautiful proud girl, she carries herself like the princess she is. All she wants is a family of her own.

UPDATE: Even though Consuela seems quite content with her life in the rescue kennel, she really deserves the chance to live in a real home. Because we have no history of her life before rescue, we can only assume she was used as a puppy mill mama. She was actually pregnant when she came to us, very thin, very scared. The best home for her is as the only dog or with male dogs who will allow her to be the alpha. She is so very easy to handle once she knows her routine. She comes immediately when called, she is literally handled at the rescue kennel with voice and hand signals.

If fostering is an option for you, let me know. You, as foster, would provide food, transport, toys, love and care, the rescue provides vet care. Please consider Consuela, she will make your heart smile!!!

As a pup, his front legs required surgery which left them a bit odd looking when standing, however there are no problems whatsoever. Sam is a 2.5 year old black male with natural ears. A big boy who loves people and gets along with all the dogs he has met while at the rescue kennel. He is a big boy who comes to us after being rescued from life on a chain by a neighbor. Sam’s new coat is coming through thick, black, and shiny after coming into rescue infested with fleas. Sam can go to most any home with his sweet nature and calm demeanor. He loves to play and is a bit of a talker, especially when he thinks you're taking too long to feed him.

Moe

Moe2A

Moe is a three year old male with natural ears who comes to rescue with a torn cruciate ligament in his left rear leg. Surgery is going to be needed to repair the leg and is quite expensive. If anyone would like to donate to our special needs cases, go to www.triplejgreatdanerescue.org, we accept PayPal.

Update: 9-23-10, Moe had surgery last week to repair his torn ACL as well as having his tail docked. The tail problem was from a nasty case of happy tail that just refused to heal. Both surgeries went very well, he is recuperating very nicely, actually ahead of expectations. He can only go out on leash for potty breaks at the present time. Moe is good with female dogs, large and small but not good with cats and some male dogs. He is good with men as well as women and truly loves attention, he has the "dane lean" down pat. Since small kids are an unknown, Moe should go to a home with kids 8 and older. A foster home where he can recuperate from his surgery would be a blessing for him as well as for the rescue. He needs a place where he can be monitored and gradually allowed to increase his activity. If you can provide such a foster home please contact the rescue.

UPDATE 2-23-11 Moe is really enjoying his new freedom and making the most of it. Over the past month he has had the opportunity to spend time with several of the female Great Danes at the rescue kennel. He has proven to be very good with every one of them. Having a playmate after months of recuperating from knee surgery, its like Christmas every day. He has improved immensely on leash as well, minds his manners much better and is now able to sit when asked to.

Take a good look at Moe, he is a very handsome boy!

Moe went to his forever home in March, 2012.

Mama

Mama2A

Mama is a 3.5 year old blue brindle female who personifies her name. She is a very laid back easy going girl who just looke like the perfect mama. There was a time in her life when she must have been asked to prove her maternal ability over and over, as witnessed by her stretched nipples.

Mama doesn't have so much patience with other females or bad mannered males for that matter. If they are dumb enough to hassle Mama, she will put them in their place. She loves to be near her humans and is quite satisfied to hang out with you any where you might be. She is crate trained and actually likes having the security of her own "safe" place.

Mama will do best in a home with older kids or no kids, no cats and preferably a male dog of her liking. She prefers larger dogs, the small dogs seem to remind her of cats :):) If you're looking for a GREAT companion, check out Mama, the Great Dane.

Doc

docDoc is a black with white markings male Great Dane who comes to rescue as an owner turn in. The owner could no longer keep him and chose rescue to find him a new home.  Doc spent his outside time between a dog lot out back of the house or a front yard guarded by an underground electric fence. He lived inside when the family was at home and did live with kids. It is believed that the underground fence contributed to Doc’s tendency to guard his borders.  Good with every living thing, he will guard his territory against anyone he does not know. Remove the fences and he’s the perfect gentleman.  A six foot fence or no fence would be best for this boy. A fencing exemption for the right home is possible. He is good with kids, cats, other dogs, large crowds. Doc came to rescue March 2010

Doc went to his forever home in September 2010.
